It is important to note that rust repair is not an exact science. There is no 100% guarantee that the rust won't come back as there is no real way of telling how much of the body work the rust has got to. Typically if the rust is too severe when we inspect the car then we will not perform the repair. If we do carry out the repair then we will give you a guarantee that the rust will not reappear within two years of the repairs. The time to carry out rust spot removal can take between 2-3 hours. This time does depend on the weather conditions at the time that you bring your vehicle to be repaired.
The most common reason rust appears on a vehicle is because of paint chip out. This can occur because of stones chipping the paint and if these areas are not sorted quickly, water can get inside these areas and rust the metal. Typical spots to check for rust problems are the wheel arches, bonnet and bumper areas.
How we repair rust areas of cars is by sanding the rust back down to bar metal, preparing it for paint and then painting the area. Depending on how big the rust patch is we don't normally have to respray the entire panel.
Doing this repair as quickly as possible will mean that the panel can remain healthy and rust free. Failing to do this repair quickly may result in having to replace the whole panel which will be a lot more costly.
